BEC is a hybrid running healthcare solution. Hybrid means that we pair traditional in-person physical therapy appointments with a suite of virtual offerings to tailor a solution that is not only comprehensive, but financially and regionally accessible.

Healthcare is riddled with barriers. Our mission is to deliver running-specific healthcare with speed, accuracy, and user-friendly design.

We work best with elite-minded individuals. That simply means that you are intrinsically-motivated, open-minded, and prepared to undergo mental and physical strain in pursuit of a well-defined goal.

We don't "fix" injuries. Rather, we serve to guide and educate you through your condition, and aim to leave you stronger and faster than when you arrived.

Plyometrics Program

Running is a lot of work for the body. Luckily, we have tendons that do a lot of the work for us. In fact, upwards of ~70% of our pace can be attributed to the passive energy that our tendons provide. 

Passive energy means that our body is not having to actively provide energy via ATP synthesis > muscle contraction. Passive energy is free energy! It's part of the reason humans are so naturally inclined to running - we're mechanically efficient on two legs. 

Plyometrics training is important for 2 main reasons:
1) it helps strengthen these tendons, improving their resistance to injury
2) it teaches us ideal motor patterns for using these tendons effectively

This plyo program is meant to build springiness in these tendons so that you can maximize your passive energy system.

Marathon Strength Program

The 2 drivers of fatigue in a marathon distance are 1) nutrition/energy depletion, and 2) muscle damage. 

This program aims to delay the rate of muscle damage by building strength-endurance in the muscles heavily used over 26.2 miles.

Core & Hips Program

Most elite runners are doing core & hip work. It's been a long-time staple, and for good reason. 

Core training involves strengthening structures of the hips, pelvis, and spine. The act of running itself also does a great job of strengthening these structures, however the low impact, high repetition nature of these core exercises build that durability with less impact. So they're a great supplement!

It can also be argued that a strong and fatigue-resistant core will improve running economy by decreasing pelvic drop & trunk shifts while helping to support overall leg stiffness. 

Another positive of this kind of work is that once you adapt to it, you can perform this up to 3-5x per week without a big impact on your overall fatigue.

  • Built after your initial Virtual Injury Consult, you'll receive a custom Durability Program intended to reduce pain and build durability in the target injured tissue.
  • Links to demonstration videos, cues on what to feel, and instructions on when in your schedule to do the program.

  • Guidance through every step. This includes Virtual Injury Call follow-ups, text/email communication, coordination with your coach, parent, or other medical referrals.
✅ Gait Analysis
  • Watching your running gait allows us to determine how you're loading your body step after step.
  • These clues, along with other training variables, can help piece together the root cause of your injury. 

✅​  Shoe Consult
  • Shoes matter! They are one piece of the injury puzzle and our consult will determine to what extent your shoes may play a role in this current injury case.
  • We also provide shoe suggestions based on your case and other basic tips and recommendations.




To get started, you'll coordinate with a Nightcap coach to take a deep dive into your training history, injury history, upcoming goals, and more.  

Each week your coach will deliver running and strength workouts through the VDOT training application, where you'll be able to sync with your smart watch/phone and communicate on a daily basis. 

Follow-up phone calls with your coach, or additional injury & nutrition consults are available at times that work around your schedule.

FAQ.

How involved is my coach?
Before even getting started, your coach will have a strong knowledge of your background, injury history, strengths/weaknesses, and goals. You coach is there to guide you through your training journey by offering guidance, motivation, and amendments to training when necessary. 

For each workout you will be able to submit "workout notes" to the training app that you and your are collaborating on. In addition, you will have access to 1x/week phone or email communication. Additional coaching contact can be purchased separately for a small fee. 

What if I get Injured?
Injuries are unfortunately part of the game. Nightcap Training's physical therapy background is uniquely suited to manage overuse injuries remotely. An injury consultation can be scheduled at your convenience and a doctor of physical therapy will provide a plan of action for returning to run. 

This allows you to:
  1. Get answers and ease of mind ASAP
  2. Return to running ASAP
  3. Maximize consistency in your training
What if my injury can't be managed remotely?
Nightcap Training physical therapists will work to find the best healthcare practitioner in your area for your specific injury.
