Resting Metabolic Rate Test
Elite training requires appropriate level of caloric intake to sustain heavy training demands over long periods of time.
Here's how Diane Johnson, Registered Dietician, will use your RMR test to determine your daily caloric needs to support your training.
TDEE = RMR + PAL + TEF
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the amount of energy (calories) your body uses while at rest to maintain vital bodily functions. It represents the minimum energy (calories) required to keep your body functioning in a resting state and accounts for the majority of your daily energy expenditure.
** An RMR test is performed using our clinical-grade VO2 mask that measures oxygen intake and carbon-dioxide output and takes roughly 45 minutes. You will be resting during this test, not exercising.
Physical Activity Level (PAL): higher levels of training require more calories. Running 100 miles/week, for example, requires greater caloric intake than running 20mpw. Diane will determine PAL based on your current training.
Thermic Effect of Food (TEF): is the energy your body uses to digest, absorb, and process the nutrients in the food you eat. It's a small but significant part of your daily calorie expenditure.
Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE): is the total number of calories a person burns in a day, considering their metabolic rate (RMR), physical activity levels (training intensity), and the thermic effect of food.
